NEW TREATMENT FOR PSORIASIS
by
Sandra Surbrugg M.D.

The first new psoriasis treatment in nearly four years offers an effective, convenient option for the management of this chronic skin disorder. Tazarotene is a relative of vitamin A that, in clinical tests, improved symptoms in 70% of those who had psoriasis on as much as 20% of their bodies. It is speculated that this synthetic retinoid accomplishes this improvement by normalizing the speed at which skin cells produce and shed, as well as by reducing inflammation. And, unlike most topical treatments, tazarotene requires only one application daily. Patients who have many scaly patches scattered over their bodies find the once-daily regimen to be very appealing. The new medication is not recommended for women who are pregnant or plan to conceive.

If you have been suffering from psoriasis and have been unable to obtain the degree of relief that you wished, Tazarotene is worth discussing with your dermatologist. People diagnosed with psoriasis years ago who have not been in dermatologists' care, might be surprised to learn that their psoriasis' significant improvement is quite likely. If you haven't been reexamined in some time, why not make an appointment to learn about today's newest treatment options? Phone the CHEYENNE SKIN CLINIC at 635-0226. We are conveniently located at 123 Western Hills Blvd.

P.S: The 0.1% concentration of tazarotene had also been approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne.
